The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association this year has opted not to produce a St. Patrick’s Day parade downtown. Instead, the group is creating a new event called Wine Downtown.

Debbie Brangenberg, Main Street’s executive director, said board members decided that their efforts in producing the parade would be better spent on a new event.Main Street is focusing on an April wine-tasting event, patterned after the Wine Down Main activity it coordinated in 2008.

The ticketed event will start at 5 p.m. on April 29.

Ah my bad I misunderstood your point. I'm in my twenties and wouldn't mind attending this. Love me some wine. However, I agree this town could use a night life for starters. At least Oxford and Memphis are nearby.

Wommuck,

"I see a lot more older folks sippin on wine at restaurants." Exactly! Thanks for proving my point.

Almost 2/3 of our Mayor/Merchant Jack Reed's mayorial campaign was focused on how he wants to get Tupelo more youth oriented and away from its "Retirement City" subtitle.

The ball was dropped here.

Actually a wine tasting sounds pretty cool. God forbid we have some culture in this town. Maybe next year they can have you tractor pull down Main.

I wouldn't exactly call a wine tasting a youth event persay. I see a lot more older folks sippin on wine at restaurants.

So no parade, but we having a wine tasting.

I guess this is another example of "Tupelo trying to gear more stuff toward the youth of the city and shed their retirement city reputation."

"The ticketed event will start at 5 p.m. on April 29." ...."Ticketed" which means I guess you have to PURCHASE tickets for the event. Ummmm, if you could only have figured out how to charge admission to a Parade then I guess we could have had one.

Hope the Wine Party isnt on Sunday! lol
