OXFORD – The courtship of Ole Miss and former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli looks like it will continue into the weekend.
Monday evening Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt indicated he hoped the situation with Masoli would play itself out “within seven days.”
Speculation grew Thursday that Masoli could visit campus today or Saturday. Later in the evening Nutt said “not yet” when asked if a visit had been arranged.
On his own website, jeremiahmasoli.net, Masoli does not mention possible destinations but includes a vague reference to his future: “I love playing football and want to continue to play. I’m still trying to figure out where that might be.”
Other schools have expressed interest in Masoli, though it's not the public parade of suitors one might see with a high school All-American with signing day coming into view.
A native of San Francisco, Masoli has hired the Los Angeles-based public relations Sitrick and Company to help repair his image.
On his website, Masoli admits to poor judgment recently but says he is a different person than the one portrayed in many media accounts.
He then thanks Sports Illustrated for its online story about him which appeared Thursday at SI.com.
Masoli has been accepted into graduate school at Ole Miss pending the arrival of all transcripts, sources say.
He was the second-team All-Pac 10 quarterback last year, leading the Ducks to a Rose Bowl appearance against Ohio State.
The Rebels currently have two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Third-year sophomore Nathan Stanley, who appeared in five games last year, will go into August camp as the starter. Junior college transfer Randall Mackey joined the team in the summer.
