COLUMBUS — A Columbus Air Force Base airman was pronounced dead after he was involved in a motorcycle wreck on U.S. Highway 45 North.

The wreck happened Monday about one mile south of the base.

The victim was riding a motorcycle north when he struck the back of an 18-wheeler.

Lowndes County officials have not released the victim's name pending the notification of the man's family.
