BILOXI - State transportation official Butch Brown will be in municipal court in Biloxi on Sept. 13 to face a charge of public intoxication.

A separate court of disorderly conduct was dropped at the request of officials with the Beau Rivage Casino.

The 67-year-old Brown, executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, was arrested early Friday morning at the casino.

Biloxi police records say Brown was "intoxicated and unconscious" at a slot machine. Casino security placed Brown under citizen's arrest until police arrived.

Brown was booked into the Harrison County jail, where he later posted a $480 bond.

Brown has said the incident was a misunderstanding and he was neither drunk nor disorderly.

Poor guy! Look at his photo... He just got lost in the sauce, maybe he had a bad day at the office or the wife spent their life savings. Who knows, hope he had one for me.

itsamess85: My hat's off to you for what you do. My hat's off to every dedicated, competent public servant, elected official, etc.

Unfortunately, we have a higher than our share allocation of incompetent ones.

I have lived other places and I see how things can be and how things are done when there are competent officials elected/appointed and serving.

I love Mississippi too and I want, expect and demand better. I'm tired of us being #50 in EVERYTHING where being last is bad and #1 in NOTHING that being first is good.

So, when I see our citizens being bigots or otherwise acting stupidly, or our government officials acting stupidly, or incompetently or abusing their positions, then I express a strong opinion.

You call it bashing, I call it expressing an opinion and/or bringing attention to an idiot or problem. You have your methods and I have mine. However, I'd be willing to be that mine are more memorable and thus more effective.

Paraphrasing Patton said, I give it to them loud and dirty so that they'll remember it. I don't care what you, or anyone else, think of me, if I've somehow prompted you to think about an issue, whether that's by making you mad or making you laugh, then I've accomplished my goal.

So, feel free to question and/or disagree with my methods, but please never misunderstand my motives.

And then there's the other option that I've pointed out to others before.

If you don't like my methods or manner of writing, or think I'm an idiot or for whatever reason don't want to read what I write, then don't.

EVERY comment has the author's userID in BOLD at the top of EVERY post. So, when you see "WTFDude" in bold at the top of a comment, don't read it! Just skip it and move on to the next one.

It doesn't matter to me whether you read what I write or not at all.

But skip enough people's writing that you don't agree with and pretty soon you'll be skipping it all and then you'll fail to hear any opinions that differ from yours. And you'll have stopped learning.

As someone a lot smarter than I am once said, "I've never learned a thing from any man agreeing with me."

WTFDude, I WORK in education, I volunteer for several groups who work to help children, and I love the state of Mississippi. I know things are not perfect and I work every day to make our state a better place for my children and others to live. Educating children and making sure they get all they need to succeed is my life goal. So...I do not sit by and watch. It is just hard to watch someone constantly bash everything that comes along in the news. I have no idea what you do for a living..but I bet it is not in the human services field.

I guess that the disorderly conduct should have been dropped since this article says he was "intoxicated and unconscious" at a slot machine.

itsamess85: Well, if Mississippi's politicians weren't so bad, I wouldn't have the opportunity to bash them, would I?

And I've NEVER bashed Mississippi's EDUCATORS, I have however bashed the politicians, like Haley Barbour, who cut education funding while increasing corrections funding, etc.

Why I live here, or why I don't move, is none of you concern.

Ever stopped to think that the reason a person might "bash" something is because they want to point out the problems with it so that it can be improved?

If I didn't care, perhaps I'd sit in a corner, keep my opinions to myself and act as if everything is just fine as so many others do.

The ostrich approach solves few problems for anyone but the ostrich.

So, rather than get offended at my bashing, which unless you're a bad politician is not directed at you, perhaps you should be appalled at those/that being bashed and recognize the issues and try to do something about them too!

Stay classy, Mississippi!!

Doesn't this look like a political hack job. Is this Mississippi politics at its best? Who are the conspirators behind this? They are a much larger threat than this old man.
