Did you see in the news that President Obama had a celebration at the White House with representatives of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) crowd this week?

Obama proclaimed June “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Pride Month.” A transgendered person, in case you were wondering, is a man who thinks he is a woman or a woman who thinks she is a man.

“I want you to know: You have our support,” Obama told members of the core Democratic constituency as he and first lady Michelle Obama hosted a cocktail-and-appetizer reception in the East Room for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Pride Month. “I will not only be your friend, I will continue to be an ally and a champion and a president who fights with you and for you.”

President Obama has promised the GLBT lobby that its political agenda is his political agenda. This includes, but is not limited to, pushing for open homosexuality in the United States military and overturning the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) passed by a Republican Congress and signed by Democratic President Bill Clinton.

Let’s think logically about the new president’s commitment to see homosexuals and heterosexuals bunking together on Navy ships. There is a reason why the military has always given separate quarters and showers to men and women. If you put males and females together in close proximity, like sleeping and showering, it creates sexual tension and leads to sexual activity which breaks down discipline and order in an institution whose very survival depends on discipline and order. Everyone knows this. Gen. Colin Powell, no conservative stalwart, made this case before Congress a few years back.

If gay men are sexually attracted to men in the same way that heterosexual men are sexually attracted to women, why then would you want to force homosexual men and straight men to shower together? Can you imagine women and men being told they must shower together in the Army? You would never see that. President Obama wants to force straight men to bunk and shower with openly gay men. This is about as well thought out as his closing Guantanamo Bay detention center. This is the kind of social engineering he thinks is good for America. Logic, military tradition and common sense are cast aside.

DOMA, which the president wants to repeal, simply allows each state the right to refuse to recognize gay marriages performed in other states. This came in response to an attempt to legalize gay marriage in Hawaii in the mid 1990s.

Today, for example, if a Steve and Tom wanted to fly to Massachusetts (which legalized gay marriage in 2003) to get “married” and then fly home to Mississippi, Mississippi would not have to legally accept that marriage. DOMA makes it a state’s rights matter. Even President Clinton agreed with that policy.

President Obama doesn’t; he wants to force states to accept it. You can see why people like me say then-candidate Obama was at best disingenuous when he told the American voters he was not in favor of gay marriage. He is, in fact. He just does not want to say so because he knows how unpopular the idea is with a majority of Americans of all political stripes.

I told myself when President Obama was elected that I would not nitpick him at every turn like the Democrats did President Bush. Everything bad that happened was Bush’s fault. When gas prices went up it was Bush’s fault. When gas prices went down, as they did dramatically, I didn’t hear any of these people giving President Bush credit. He put more African-Americans into positions of power than any other president in history, but he was still a racist. All of this was unfair, unpatriotic and unmerciful.

But what we have with President Obama has become apparent. He is to the far left of the American public on most issues, as some tried to warn, but because of his charismatic personality, the September 2008 economic crisis and a weak opponent, he was elected to lead us.

For Christians, we are commanded by the Bible to pray for all in authority, no matter how much or how little we agree with them. I do that. I pray that God Almighty gets into the heart and mind of President Obama, and I pray that President Obama opens his heart and mind to Almighty God.

As we do that, we can also work through the political system to defeat any of the president’s policy ideas that are clearly contrary to the Word of God.

So,Mr.Riley, your argument is that this area has lost jobs to China because Red China has more technology, talent and tolerance than we do?Huh?What?

You can read all of Mr.Florida's writings that you want. You can worship Mr.Florida all that you want. But for me,I would rather read God's word and worship him.

Now is not the first time in history that mankind has THOUGHT that they knew more than God.The bible is full of mankind's follies and failures. If I have to sell my soul to Satan in order to have a good job,I guess that I will always be poor.

The 3 "T's" and the Mississippi Mindset

Richard Florida writes that the three "T's" to future economic development in the coming creative economy include "Technology, Talent, and Tolerance" without which societies and economies will be unsuccessful. If the drivel in this column is indicator of the mindset in NEMS then certainly prospects for any sustainable long-term lifting of the economic profile of the region are dim at best. If the Journal is going to run a weekly "Christian", column would suggest this space be broadened a bit for other views that hopefully can better "see over the fence". Surely Mississippi has wallowed at the bottom of the food chain long enough.

Cordially

Interesting! So, our "fair and open" president invited and welcomed the GLBT crowd into his home but kind of forgot to invite the Chrisitan crowd in his home on the National Day of Prayer. Maybe it was just an oversight on his part. Perhaps he did not realize that he would be the first president in generations to not pray with his fellow believers (remember, he told us openly on national television with Pastor Rick Warren that he was a devout believer) on the National Day of Prayer in his home/our home/the White House.

Forget homphobic; think more along the lines of hypocritical. Get real!!! Our president has an agenda and it does not involve Christianity! Mark it down, believe it, and act upon that knowledge!

Yes! Homosexuality is indeed immoral behavior. HOWEVER too much time is spent pointing out the sins of others and on the topic of sexuality of U.S. troops.....especially by those that see themselves as morally correct, free of reproach or of the proselytizing type.

The finger pointers and sinless should be focusing on witnessing and mission work into the lives & salvation of the brave and respected men and women of our military.

WWJD?

Place your stones on the ground and pick up your bibles!

"Do not judge lest you be judged."

"For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you."

"And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in you own eye?"

"Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye, and behold, the log is in your own eye'?"

"You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

Homosexuality is wrong, I don't think ABratt would want to shower with 10 men if he thought one of them might be gay. As Christians we are called to hate the sin and love the sinner. Mr. Wildmon writes an opinion column, I am suprised the DJ will even print it. The column is not required reading, if you don't like the man who writes the column, don't read his column, problem solved. What we need is more speaking against this topic instead of sitting back and letting this country rot to nothing and no morals.

Give the U.S. military volunteers a little credit. Regardless whether they are homosexual or not, everyone assumes they are responsible and well trained soldiers.....not a group of lust thirsty perverts.

Gosh, seems something else would keep Wildmon's mind at attention rather than erotic shower/bunk sexual thoughts.....must has way too time on his hands.

The Dark Side of Tupelo Miss. has spoken again.

When I say "Dark Side of Tupelo" my reference is to the Daily Journal's Community Columnist Tim Wildmon, Vice Honcho of the tax exempt American Family Association.

Wildmon's latest homophobic attack is on gay, transgender, lesbian, bisexual people in the military, or potentially military personnel, and how Obama is going to force men to sleep with men and women to sleep with women-- President Obama is forcing this behavior. "President Obama wants to force straight men to bunk and shower with openly gay men." (BS!)

Now, I noticed Timmy mentioned bi-sexual people in his list but he failed to define how Obama would force them to behave. And there are millions and millions of this category of sexually different folks. A lot of military people will tell you that the military is like heaven on earth to them.

There is a certain urgency and defeatism in Timmy's column. Gay rights are gaining ground with each passing day.Unlike Timmy Wildmon, I don't think I would donate $500,000 to deny tax

paying gay California citizens their right to marry if they so choose. This is a free society for all men and women notwithstanding the biblical word of the so-called religious right.

Homophobia is sickness that attacks the mind. It's a sickness that prompts me to write: "Tupelo Mississipppi Has a Dark Side."
