Childers plans to lead crop damage tour

U.S. Rep. Travis Childers plans to lead a crop disaster tour next week to hear from farmers and highlight the scope of losses suffered because of drought and flooding this year.

Childers' office said he's scheduled to be joined Monday by U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Undersecretary Michael Scuse. The itinerary includes a meeting with a sweet potato group in Vardaman and farmer forums in Verona and Batesville.

USDA last month designated much of the state a natural disaster area due to spring and fall flooding and summer drought. Major row crop producers face potential revenue losses of more than $440 million, according to preliminary estimates by agricultural economists at Mississippi State University .

The tour comes amid a push by Childers and others for direct payments and other emergency assistance for affected farmers.

Bichon you wont have to worry abouth childers helping any one he hasn't voted to help this year,hes voted no all year.

So i wish the farmers luck because they really need the help.

Where is your govnor in all this ,this shows he just doesn't care abouth the people of this state that wares overhalls and dirt under their finger nails.
