ECRU – Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant told furniture industry officials Wednesday that he would support legislation to provide tax credits aimed at saving or bringing back cut-and-sew jobs.

Bryant was in Northeast Mississippi to meet with furniture officials who told him about the difficulties the industry faced, including the loss of jobs.

Gov. Haley Barbour last year vetoed legislation that would have give a tax credit to furniture manufacturers who retained or brought back cut-and-sew jobs.

Bryant told the officials he would work to get the bill passed in the upcoming legislative session, which starts in January.

Do either of you actually believe that Bryant cares about bringing jobs to North MS?....or that the major furniture manufacturers in North MS will bring cut-n-sew jobs back just because of a tax credit?

If you do then you aren't crazy...but my reality is different than yours.

I don't know if Bryant is willing to butt heads with Haley or not. If he would be a key player to get this legislation passed, he would lock himself in some votes in North Mississippi should he decide to run for governor.

Haley's days in office are numbered to a little over a year. This is likely lip service to potential voters on the area or in other words this is the launch of the Bryant for governor campaign. Anyway it is a good thing for us and we should insist that it not be only a "get me elected ploy"

Hopefully the furniture industry has a friend currently in office. I hope he is successful. I wonder if Haley has softened his opinion on this.

Finally a move to bring jobs back to Mississippi if the governor doesn't veto the bill again.
