OXFORD – The building that was home to The Gin in Oxford was destroyed in a fire on Saturday night.

The Gin was once a popular hangout and bar for years in the college town, but the building had been empty for about 10 years. The fire started at about 9:30 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire, and it is under investigation.

Actually, it was both..."The Gin" was in fact the old gin just off the square, in the shadow of the water tower and across from the Ice House. After it closed as an actual gin it was converted to a bar/restaurant.

Not sure about that Churn, but The Gin building this report is about is an old restaurant/bar in Oxford.

Would this be one of the old cotton gins? When I was a young boy growing up on a farm in South Lafayette county, there were two cotton gins in oxford where we would take our fresh picked cotton for processing. Avent was one but the other escapes my mind. One just off the square and the other a few blocks away.
