POINT/COUNTERPOINT: Debate continues about constitutional free speech

The credo of America is the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Isn't it interesting that those "patriots" who constantly rely on words like "patriotism" and "government infringement," don't want government to infringe on their lives, but encourage government to infringe on the lives of those with whom they disagree?

Point/James Hull

I do not believe in the Ku Klux Klan or what it stands for, but I do believe it has the right and freedom of speech to say it. That's what our country was founded and built on, the delicate, precarious balance of rights and beliefs: Freedom of Speech, the Freedom and Right of Assembly, Freedom of Expression, the Right to Bear Arms.

According to my religious beliefs, I stand against the gay-lesbian-homosexual-transgender agenda, but according to my sense of America, I believe in a person's right to be whomever they want to be.

The credo of America is the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Isn't it interesting that those "patriots" who constantly rely on words like "patriotism" and "government infringement," don't want government to infringe on their lives, but encourage government to infringe on the lives of those with whom they disagree?

I'm a preacher. I believe homosexuality is wrong. But to my way of thinking, so are cigarette smoking, prostitution and getting drunk. It is my right to preach against them, and even take action against them when they pose risks to public safety. Yet, I welcome, smokers, drunks, prostitutes and homosexuals to come and worship with me.

Homosexuality isn't eroding the values and morals of our country. It is eroding the values and morals of those who engage in it.

I believe exclusively in the sanctity of union between a man and a woman. But I don't believe that government or governmental agencies should deny the rights of those who don't share my beliefs.

Counterpoint/Ed Holliday

The national and international attention given to Itawamba County recently is a wake up call for everyone about the issue of homosexual behavior. The federal court has ruled that a student's freedom of speech also includes actions and conduct such as bringing a same-sex date and wearing clothes the student prefers taking precedent over the school board policy.

How can a federal court in Mississippi rule in favor of free speech rights for a student going to a prom but then tell another student in Texas that if the name of Jesus is mentioned in a graduation speech it would mean jail time? Wow! Does any judge or the ACLU understand what Lincoln said when he stated (using the Bible), "A house divided against itself cannot stand."

Either there is free speech for a student or there isn't. In fact, the student got all the free speech she wanted and the school board applied its policy and treated all students equally. But the ACLU argued for special rights. When will the ACLU argue for a Christian student to be allowed to speak the name of Jesus? In one court they argue for others not to impose their views on someone else, and yet in the Itawamba case they argue for one person to impose her view on hundreds. Special rights and one-sided privileges seem to flow to the ACLU's favorites, but conservatives, people of faith, and those in the ex-gay movement are denied that same right. If we are going to protect a student's freedom of speech (and actions) then let's do it for all students everywhere - even those who want to say the "J" word during school functions!

The bottom line in the Itawamba drama is this: in all things, God is always working.

Bichon actually said "this Pauline addict is not in the Bible, IS IT?" lmfao ad infinitum!

I believe, not that Bichon will care, that Marlene was referring to the Pauline epistles, so called because they were written by the apostle Paul, and yes, they are most definitely in the Bible. You go, you Biblical scholar you! Man I haven't had a laugh that satisfying in a long time (or at least since the last time I read a Bichon post) thanks a lot. :D

@bichon: No reputable mental health professional would say something like that. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you're joking, rather than call you a liar.

Bichon, it's not my fault your wife doesn't put out anymore. But, I don't blame her one bit.

VU, I took your advice and sought professional help. He gave me a clear mental health report.

He said being a homosexual was like a mechanic who had all screwdrivers or all wrenches..he just could not get the job done.

Bichon, you exhibit 5 of the 7 common traits of Paranoid Personality Disorder. Please seek professional help. Your untreated mental illness is a threat to your children.

The last thing I have to worry about is my children being converted by a gay pervert.

Child services are not in the business of taking children from a wholesome family environment.

What do you know about raising children..You are missing out on one of the joys of raising children.

Lets just leave it up to the folks to decide who is suffering form a mental illness.

MISS CONFUSED!!

Bichon, if you actually think that a "gay" will convert your child, then perhaps you're an unfit parent. Perhaps child services should start the process of removing your parental custody rights. Perhaps your children would be better raised by someone not suffering from an obvious mental illness.

The diatribe by Marlene is just further proof that gender cunfusion severely reduces their cognitive abilities.

This Paulene addict is not in the Bible. IS IT?

The LGBT community is a religion of it own, certainly not biblical!

The study by this UC Davis queer was sqewed to reflect the views of queers. By the way "GAY PORN" would cause me to puke.

The reason homosexuality is a concern to decent folks is because homosexuals are trying to force their immoral behavior on our children. The whole subject should never have been imposed on high school students.

Well, at least nobody is quoting Havelock Ellis...

And you are right, VU..."No normal heterosexual concerns himself/herself with the sexual practices of others"

Perhaps the schools should have a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy?

April 11, 2010
Bichon, there's an interesting scientific study from UC-Davis which shows homophobes like you are more likely to be aroused by gay porn than non-homophobic heterosexuals.

So, tell us... what's your REAL story?

saw3: You're fantasizing about gay sex shows that you are the true perversion. No normal heterosexual concerns himself/herself with the sexual practices of others.

Ahhhh, Bichon... you show your lack of intelligence with every post, and yes you are obsessed.

You remind me of a little boy who thinks girls are "icky" and have cooties. But that's okay... the First Amendment gives you that right to be fully ignorant when it comes to gender and sexual orientation.

Furthermore, oh ignorant one, you'd be surprised how many in the LGBT community have a religious faith, dear boy.

Do you subscribe to the Pauline edicts on women in authority in church? If so, why haven't you and yours gone to the legislature to demand that a law be written to prohibit this? The bible also condones slavery! Are you ready for the backlash when you demand the return of Jim Crow to your state?

I guess it's futile to try and reason with an unreasonable and uneducatable person such as yourself. It's futile to tell you that over 50 years of legitimate research trumps your Bronze Age beliefs.

Actually, I am not obsessed with queers. I do not even want to be in the same room with a homosexual because it makes me feel dirty, however I will point out what the Bible teaches and hope the person will repent and give up his/her immoral ways.

LOL Just like the lezzies Osama does not believe the Bible either.

according to what these lezzies are saying we should consider a rapist or child molester born that way and we should just accept their life style.

Any doctor or psychiatrist that says it is normal to be queer is sick too.

Ms McMuffin might have just wanted to go to a prom, however the school or its administration could not force the other kids to attend to be in her company.

It is not hate or slander for me to be interested in anyones salvation.

It is hatred on your part to try to force your behavior on other people.

Regardless of the names you call me does not bother me except I feel sorry for you.

We are nere for just a season, then we die. What then my friends.

I dare say, Bichon, people like you are the reason that Mississippi and the South in general are still looked upon as backward hicks. Get a life. Do a little research, read something besides the Bible once in awhile. Learn that gay people did not choose to be gay. Then apply some simple logic: If gay people did not choose to be gay, then God made them that way. Stop fighting what God has created, like your own Bible teaches you. Learn some love and compassion. When you look at it closely, you will discover that it is YOUR words that more closely resemble Osama bin Laden than me or Marlene. Gay people are not "gender confused perverts" nor "immoral perverts"; that is large-scale slander and hate on your part. Read what well-respected doctors and psychiatrists have to say: Being gay is **NOT** a sickness.

Let's look at this issue of "forcing" our beliefs on others again. Ms. Mcmillan was not looking to "force" her beliefs on ANYONE. She did not seek to PREVENT others from attending the Prom. She only wanted to attend as herself, and join others in celebrating their high school days.

The School Board, OTOH, decided to "force" Ms Mcmillan to NOT attend the Prom. IOW, they actively worked to PREVENT her from attending, despite the lack of any evidence that she would cause a problem. The decision was made based on their OWN prejudices and homophobia, and it was done in DIRECT VIOLATION of Federal Law.

Now I ask you again: WHO was trying to force WHOM?

Personal note to the IAHS school board: If you're not willing to obey the law while doing your duties, you should resign.

What does it say about Fundamentalist "Christians" when people like Bichon use rhetoric that more closely resembles Osama bin Laden than Jesus Christ?

Any heterosexual, like Bichon, who is obsessed with gay sex obviously has some underlying problem.

I can assure you, my dear bigot Bichon, that I am neither gender confused, nor perverted, and neither are the uncounted thousands of transgendered people around the world!

We've been around since long before your belief system called Christianity, and we'll continue to exist for many thousands of years to come, despite your refusal to face the truth.

The rest of your pathetic rant just makes me want to laugh. "Wholesome" events? "Homosexual" religion? OMG, Bishon, is the sky green in your world? Your ignorance is so blatant.
Bichon

April 10, 2010
For gender confused perverts there is no rationale. We do have some national expert perverts, however they really do not have credibility.

There is no rational debate for perverts. It is hard to imagine any immoral pervert wanting to flaunt their sickness.

We are not supposed to allow religion in schools. Actually homosexuals want to impose their ouw perverted religion in the school system.

It seems there are enough homosexuals to have their own events.

Why can't the homosexuals realize that decent people want to stay away from them..The event that Ms McMuffin attended shows that most of her class mates did not want to be near her.

It is not a violation of her rights if the students decide to boycott any event she attends. They have the right to choose to attend only wholesome events.
